About Cool Science and my journey
I am an 80-year-old retired head of physics with over 30 years of classroom teaching experience, dedicated to bringing the wonders of science alive for Key Stage 2 children. Having visited more than 350 primary schools since 2005, I am preparing to return for selected visits starting in 2027.

How Cool Science began
When I was Head of Physics in secondary education, I started inviting Year 6 primary pupils to our laboratories, using liquid nitrogen to produce thrilling finales. Following my early retirement due to a hearing impairment, I missed teaching dearly. With encouragement from my wife, an experienced junior school teacher, I purchased a white van and a specialist liquid nitrogen tank to take interactive physics assemblies and demonstrations directly to schools across Nottingham and beyond.

Exciting physics demonstrations for KS2
My demos combine fun, wonder, and core physics topics such as forces, light, and sound. Pupils love engaging spectacles like the magnetic tug of war, electromagnets, lasers, and the unforgettable big bang finale powered by liquid nitrogen. As a former STEM Ambassador with over 100 voluntary visits, I feel the responsibility of standing up for my fantastic subject

Decades of experience and peace of mind
Safety and sound organisation are paramount. With over 30 years of secondary teaching and hundreds of primary visits, headteachers can book with absolute confidence. I carry £5 million in public liability insurance and bring tried-and-tested safety practices to every school hall.
